I am a Labour Member of the Scottish Parliament for the Glasgow Region, elected on 5 May 2011.
In December 2011, I was appointed to the opposition frontbench as Scottish Labour’s Shadow Minister for Social Justice, and since June 2013, I have been a member of the Shadow Cabinet as Spokesperson on the Constitution.
Regional MSPs represent the whole of the City, including the constituencies of Glasgow Anniesland, Cathcart, Kelvin, Maryhill and Springburn, Pollok, Provan, Rutherglen, Shettleston and Southside. If you want to find out more about who represents you in the Scottish Parliament you can visit the Scottish Parliament website and search for all of your representatives by providing your post code.
Before being elected to Parliament I worked in the voluntary sector and for the Labour Party at Holyrood and Westminster. Between 2006 and 2010 I was a member of the General Council of the Scottish TUC, I am a former Chair of the Young Workers’ Committee of the Scottish TUC and of Scottish Young Labour.
I live in Glasgow and I studied at Glasgow and Aberdeen Universities as well as with the Open University. At the time of my election I had just been appointed as a member of the Glasgow Childrens Panel. I have served in a variety of positions in the Labour Party and with local community organisations, particularly in North and West Glasgow.
Glasgow is a great world city and as a new voice in the Scottish Parliament I am determined to speak out for Glasgow to ensure that it gets the support it needs to flourish.
